Kelly Clarkson is an American singer and reality television show winner with an estimated net worth of $29 million. She was born on April 24, 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas. Her mother is a first grade teacher and her father an engineer. She is the youngest of three with an older brother and sister, as well as two younger siblings from her father’s second marriage to his second wife. Growing up Southern Baptist, Clarkson spent most of her life in church and has formed a close relationship with God, which has shown up in many of her songs and much of her work. It was when she was in the 7th grade that her choir teacher overheard her singing and encouraged her to audition for the school choir. From there, she performed in several musicals and developed a passion for singing despite never having had any professional voice training.
Despite being offered three full scholarships to three prestigious Texas universities, Kelly Clarkson decided that she wanted to pursue a career in music. She felt that college is something she could enroll in at any time in her life, but she only had one opportunity to become a singer. She also turned down two contracts with prestigious recording companies, including Jive and Interscope Records. She felt as if both would have turned her into the next bubblegum act, and she did not want that. She worked hard to continue to earn money to pay for a demo and find a company that would promote her as she saw fit.
In 2002, her life changed forever. There was a new show being filmed called American Idol. The premise of the show was to find the next big thing; the next superstar singer and talent. She decided, upon being pressured by friends, to try out. She went on to win the competition and become a huge star almost immediately, her gorgeous voice helping her make it to the end all the way. From there, she went on to star in a movie with her runner-up, she released several number one tracks and she went on to marry the stepson of Reba McEntire, her musical idol. She is now pregnant with the couple’s second child, only a year after giving birth to their first. Since 2002 when she won the most famous talent show in America, Kelly Clarkson has released 7 studio albums, all of which have featured famous songs that have done quite well.
Despite her fame and her success, Kelly Clarkson has had to deal with many issues in her long career. She was accused of being signed with another record label before Idol, though she was cleared of all charges for that. She has also been criticized for her weight gain before and after having her first baby, with critics telling her she’s too fat and needs to lose weight. Clarkson, however, is a true class act and has told the world to worry about their own problems and leave her alone. She had a baby and that’s the best reason to gain weight, she said.
