Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl Sandberg is an American technology genius with an estimated net worth of $1.17 billion. She was born August 28, 1969 in Washington D.C. Born to a Jewish family, her mother Adele was a French professor for a university and her father, Joel, was an ophthalmologist. She and her siblings were raised by very active, very motivated parents and Sheryl Sandberg often credits them for instilling in her a sense of motivation and success that makes her life so successful. When she was only 2, her family moved to Miami Beach where she spent the entirety of her education. She was always at the top of her class, and her exceptional intelligence was never in question.

When she graduated from high school in 1987, Sheryl Sandberg began her college career at Harvard University. She was a 1991 graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in economics, as well as the recipient of the John H. Williams prize for being the top graduating student in her class. She, naturally, graduated summa cum laude. She spent much of her time studying, but she also found time in college to cofound an organization for women called the Women in Economics and Government group. She spent a year working for the World Bank in India before she came back to the United States in 1993 and decided to re-enroll in Harvard to pursue her Masters Degree in business, with the highest distinction.

Sheryl Sandberg graduated with her MBA from Harvard two years later, and she began her career. She began working for McKinsey & Co. for a year. In 2001, she began to think she wanted to move elsewhere and work in another field. She moved to Silicon Valley and began working for Google. She was the VP of Global Online Sales for the company during the time from 2001 to 2008, when she was recruited by Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, to become the company’s new COO. Her role in the company was the make it profitable, and she was able to do so very discreetly within two years of taking the job. She earned only $300,000 in income during 2011 but she was also awarded more than $30 million in Facebook shares. She is on a number of boards, including the Walt Disney Company, Women for Women International and Center for Global Development among many others.

When she was only 24, she married and then divorced when she was 25. It was not until 2004 that Sheryl Sandberg met Dave Goldberg and married him; he was the CEO of SurveyMonkey. The couple has two kids; a son and a daughter. Unfortunately, their marriage lasted only 11 years when Dave was killed after falling off a treadmill and suffering from severe head trauma while the family was vacationing in Mexico.

Sheryl Sandberg has been ranked among the 50 monst powerful women in business more than a half dozen times, peaking at number 10. She’s also been named one of the 25 most influential people on the web, and she was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.
