Adele is one of the few stars who can get away with being referred to simply by their first name and still expect people to know who she is. Not yet 30, this talented singer and songwriter has amassed a staggering fortune of $172 million. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, London, on May 5, 1988. She attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology from which she graduated in 2006. In the same year, her friend posted a demo of her singing on Myspace and she was given a recording contract with XL Recordings. In 2008, she released her debut album ‘19’ which was certified platinum seven times in the UK. It was also three times platinum in the United States. The album contains the single ‘Hometown Glory’ which Adele wrote when she was just 16. In 2011, she released her second album ‘21’. This won her many accolades. It held the top spot in the United States for longer than any album since 1985 and won her six Grammy Awards. It sold over 31 million copies worldwide and became the longest-running number one album from a female solo artist in the history of both the United States and the UK. In total, she has sold over 100 million records and this makes her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
