5 Celebs We’d Love to See Host SNL This Season

2014 Winter TCA Tour - Day 1

It was announced this week that Bill Hader has been added to the list of celebrities who will be hosting Saturday Night Live in the upcoming week. The famous SNL album and star of the new film dramedy The Skeleton Twins will host the show on October 11, the third episode in the show’s 40th season. The first time host’s show will feature the musical guest, Hozier, NBC announced.

Hader joins Chris Pratt and Sarah Silverman as the hosts for the first three weeks of the new season, beginning September r27. The Guardians of the Galaxy star will be phenomenal so many reasons, as will funny lady Silverman, who was a featured player during the 1993-1994 season. Ariana Grande will be the musical guest alongside Pratt, while Maroon 5 teams up with Silverman.

Here are five other celebrities we’d love to see host SNL during the show’s celebratory 40th anniversary season.

Matthew McConaughey

It is definitely time for the megastar to host his second episode of SNL. This year was McConaughey’s year one hundred percent, winning the Oscar for Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club and almost winning the Emmy for his tremendous performance in HBO’s True Detective. Even his Lincoln car commercials are special. He hosted the show once before in 2003, during the show’s 28th season. Nothing would be better than seeing him host SNL!

Zoe Saldana

Pratt’s gorgeous costar from Guardians should make her way to the Rockefeller Plaza.  It would be the movie star’s first time to host the show and she would probably do a great job. She has an easy, natural way about her and great chemistry with costars, and she seems like she could do comedy skits as easily as action flicks.

Tom Cruise

How awesome would this be? Mr. Cruise has never once hosted SNL. In the show’s 40th year, it’s time for you to give it a try. One would guess that he maybe wouldn’t be the best improvisor but he could have great scripted skits to play around in. As the star of Edge of Tomorrow, he led one of the year’s most innovative and interesting movies, so it would be a nice year to finally see him host the show.

Reese Witherspoon

This leading lady has a huge movie coming out in November, the movie adaptation of the popular biography Wild, about a woman who hikes the Pacific Crest Trail solo. Perhaps Reese will do SNL to promote the movie opening? It is a more serious film, reportedly one that could earn Reese an Oscar nomination, so it would be a lot of fun to balance out the darker stuff with some lightheaded and fun comedy on SNL. She hosted the show once before in 2001 during the show’s 27th season. She had the honor of hosting the first episode following the September 11 attacks.

Debra Messing

The Will and Grace star is back on television this fall with the cop dramedy NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura. It would be great if she would stop by Roc Center and show off those sitcom skills with some hilarious skits. And she has actually never hosted before!
