We’ve been following the whole Paula Deen racial slur story since it started. And while there have been some horrible ramifications for the former Food Network chef/host, there’s one silver lining in all of it. Her cookbook sales have been skyrocketing on Amazon. As we pointed out yesterday in our Paula Deen lost endorsement rundown, she’s been axed from Target, Novo Nordisk, Walmart, Casar’s Casino and of course The Food Network. And many folks are estimating that she’ll be losing up to 7 figures because of all this.
However, Paula Deen’s cookbooks seem to have taken a meteoric rise in the past few days. One of her books, Paul Deen’s New Testament 250 recipes all lightened up, used to be ranked 1580 on Amazon’s list. It jumped to being in the top 200 in just one day. But here’s the question. Will Amazon discontinue selling her books because of all the controversy surrounding her?
I mean this seems to be the ONLY place right now where because of what Paula Deen said sales have actually risen. Personally I think it would look pretty bad on Amazon’s part if they continue allowing her books to be sold. They could receive a lot of backlash from pubic rights activists. Guess we’ll see.
