It’s that time of year again; the MTV Video Music Award nominees were announced on Thursday and it should come as no surprise who leads the list of nominations. It’s Beyonce, in case you didn’t already know. The pop superstar took home nominations in 8 categories, including Best Female, Best Choreography and Video of the Year. She’s not too far ahead of everyone else, though. Beyonce received only one more nomination that both Eminem and Iggy Azalea.
Eminem scored nominations for best hip hop video, best collaboration and best male video while Azalea scored nominations for video of the year and best female video. Other nominees include Pharrell Williams for his hit song, “Happy,” after it was nominated for multiple awards. He’s up for video of the year, which is always the biggest award of the night. His competition includes Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea. Happily enough (see what we did there?) Williams is also up against himself in the category of best male video. Both Happy and his collaboration “Sing,” with Ed Sheeran were both nominated for this award.
The list of nominees in different categories is long. Katy Perry, Kanye West, Ariana Grande, Pitbull, Jason Derulo and Lorde all have nominations this year. The awards will air Sunday, August 24 on MTV. Performers at this year’s VMAs will include Usher and Ariana Grande. While there will be performances by a number of other artists, they’ve yet to be announced. MTV is expected to make this announcement in the coming weeks. The awards show is being held at the Forum in Inglewood, California. It’s always a good show and this year is scheduled to be no different than it has been in years past as some of the biggest names in music take the stage to perform and accept their awards.
