Seems no matter what is going on in pop culture, anytime Britney Spears releases a new album, all the world stops what they are doing for a moment. This is usually followed by a lot of: what did she do this time? As an artist, it seems Britney always likes pushing the boundaries a little further, and with this most recent album, Britney Jean, the critics have responded. Note we did not say they responded well.
While Entertainment Weekly may have given the album a +, it is safe to say the rest of the critic world did not enjoy nearly as much.
The overall reaction has been pretty negative. The Washington Post and The Atlantic both have some rather harsh criticisms of the album, which you can read here. Here’s the thing about nostalgia. It works if people want it. The problem a great deal of people have with Britney Spears music is that it really hasn’t changed or evolved since her inception into the business, way back in the 90′s. If you want to get yourself back to your former glory, you need to reinvent yourself. I mean, just look at Miley Cyrus?
Wait, did I just say that?
Man, I think I need to step away from my computer for a few hours.
