In perhaps what will amount to the bravest, most shocking news you will hear all day, it seems movie actress Daryl Hannah is stepping forth from the shadows with a brave confession. The actress, well known for playing the mermaid in Splash, is coming out about having dealt with a crippling shyness most of her life, and how as a child her doctor diagnosed her with autism. A truly brave confession to make, and one that will hopefully, bring more eyes to this important cause.
In an interview with ABC, the actress explains how she was shy most of her life, and despite what people may think to the opposite, hated being in the spotlight and the center of attention, which may be just one of the reasons she pulled away from said spotlight a bit later in her career. The reality is, autism affects one in nine now, and it is nothing short of incredibly brave for the actress to step forth and bring more media attention to it. I think it also shows just how talented she is, because outside of being shy, you would have never had an inkling Daryl Hannah was affected by anything. It is even more amazing when you think of her character in Kill Bill, which could best be described as anything by shy.
We say kudos to Daryl Hannah for this move. Maybe with news like this, the press can focus on something far more important than Miley Cyrus for a few moments.
