David Beckham announced his soccer retirement on Thursday marking one of more unique and successful soccer stories in the history of the sport. During the past 20 years of the David Beckham era one can’t simply measure his career in simple statistics. However, he’s played nearly 800 games, has 10 league championships and has participation in three World Cups. At the height of his career, Beckham was clearly a force to be reckoned with.
But it’s really Beckham’s celebrity that captured the world so much. Soccer was merely the stage for which his celebrity was set. With his good looks, celebrity wife, and endorsements knocking on his door every five minutes, Beckham carved out one heck of a career.
It may be a long time however, before we see another who can compete with the finest on the field, then step into a suit to meet political heavyweights, go party with the biggest celebrities on the planet, then finish it off with a waltz down the catwalk.
As for what’s next, we’re sure he’ll think of something.
