Duchess Kate Middleton Cancels Trip to Malta

The Duchess of Cambridge has been mulling over the decision to fly to Malta this weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of the nation’s independence, a trip she’s had on her schedule for month. Kate Middleton has been looking forward to this trip all summer, as she was set to represent her grandmother-in-law, the Queen of England, on the trip. It’s something that was important to her, as well as milestone in her royal life. It was to be the first overseas trip the Duchess would take on her own. However, she has officially changed her plans and decided not to attend.

The trip has been up in the air since the Duchess’ pregnancy was announced. Her severe morning sickness makes it almost impossible for the Duchess to engage in everyday life, and she was given every last possible second to make a decision about the trip.

According to palace officials, the Duchess will remain home this weekend and her husband, Prince William, will take her place on the trip to visit the nation. The Duke of Cambridge said he is honored to go in place of his wife to visit the nation, but it was said that the decision was not an easy one for the Duchess. She spent most of Wednesday evening with her husband and doctors discussing the possibility of going on the trip, but her medical doctors urged her not to go.

The sickness is so severe that it caused the Duchess to require hospitalization the first time she was pregnant, and palace officials, family and her doctors would prefer the Duchess spends this time at home to prevent her from becoming even sicker than she already is. So while she will not make the trip to Malta this weekend, her husband will. Hopefully the Duchess will feel better soon.
