Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is Forbes’ Top-Grossing Movie Star

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" - Australian Premiere

In an upset unlike anything we’ve seen since George Washington and the Continental Army took down the British, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been named Forbes’ ‘Top-Grossing Movie Star’ for 2013. ‘The Rock’ had roles in “Snitch”, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”, “Pain & Gain”, and “Fast and the Furious 6”. Those four movies combined to earn a whopping $1.3 billion in global ticket sales.

It’s an amazing comeback for Johnson, who didn’t even appear on last year’s list. His only 2012 film was “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”. Last year’s winner was Robert Downey Jr. who was part of $1.5 billion in global ticket sales thanks to his “Marvel’s The Avengers” film.

Downey Jr. was number two on this year’s list ahead of Steve Carrell who finished third. Perhaps it’s not a huge feat for Johnson as much of the revenue driven by his films in 2013 wasn’t on his shoulders. Nonetheless, it’s an impressive feat for ‘The Rock’ and a reflection as to just how popular the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise movies are around the world. For the record, the only women on the list were Jennifer Lawrence and Sandra Bullock.
