10 Celebrities Who Have Badmouthed America

In the eyes of some, America is the greatest country in the world. People in the United States have freedoms and opportunities that aren’t easily accessible for people in many other countries, and the idea of the American dream is the motivating factor for many people to give it their all. However, one of the best things about America is that people are allowed to express themselves freely, and people’s opinions on the country differ vastly. Although some people are too shy to let their feelings be known, these celebrities are exercising their right to free speech, and they aren’t going to apologize for it. Here are 10 celebrities who have badmouthed America.

Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon may be an American success, but her opinions on America haven’t always been positive. Sarandon has received a lot of criticism for her political views, which many have deemed anti-American. Over the years, Sarandon has expressed disapproval of some of the American government’s choices, especially in regards to the military. However, Sarandon stands firm that she is not being anti-American, and that she is simply sharing her thoughts and feelings on certain situations.

Sean Penn

Sean Penn has never been the type to bite his tongue, so it should come as no surprise that he has no problem expressing his true feelings on the United States. In fact, Penn’s stance on America has become a hot topic on the Internet, and there are message boards and websites dedicated to discussing his ‘hatred’ for the country. He referred to Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice as “villainously and criminally obscene people.” Penn has even gone as far as to accuse the United States government of creating ISIS.

Michael Moore

With his reputation, it should come as no surprise that Michael Moore wound up on this list. The famed documentary director is well known for sharing his opinion, especially when it comes to the United States. In 2004, director Mike Wilson put together a documentary titled, Michael Moore Hates America which accused Moore of purposely painting the country in a bad light in his work. Over the years he has criticized many things about American culture, and most recently he caught a lot of heat for insinuating that Chris Kyle, the inspiration behind the film American Sniper, was a coward.

Seth Rogan

Seth Rogan may be known for his sense of humor, but he can also get serious when he finds it necessary. Like Michael Moore, Seth Rogan also spoke out against the film, American Sniper, suggesting that it was foolish to praise someone for murdering people. Rogan got a lot of back lash after posting a tweet that expressed his opinion, but he didn’t back down from his stance.

Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin has become kind of notorious for bath mouthing things (and people, including his own daughter) so it’s clearly nothing for him to send a few disses towards the United States. Several years ago, Baldwin threatened to move out of the country if George Bush was elected president. He also jumped to Seth Rogan’s defense in regards to his comments about American Sniper.  At this point, Baldwin has been dubbed anti-American by many people.

Kanye West

2015 MTV Video Music Awards - Fixed Show

Being American born and American made hasn’t stopped Kanye West from letting the world know how he feels about the ‘land of the free and the home of the brave.’ Kanye, who has been outspoken for the majority of his career, is well-known for shaking things up. Aside from his infamous “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” comment, Kanye has also accused the United States of being racist, stating, “I’ll be damned if I raise my daughter around ignorance and flat-out blatant racism.” Well, you can say what you want about Kanye, but if you can get over his delivery, he usually has some pretty interesting things to say.

Justin Bieber

Premiere Of Open Road Films' "Justin Bieber's Believe" - Arrivals

Well, well, well, Justin Bieber may be famous, but it’s not necessarily because everyone loves him. Although he is Canadian, the United States has been responsible for Bieber’s success, but The Biebs and Lady Liberty definitely have a love hate relationship. Back in 2011, when asked if he would ever become a U.S. citizen, Bieber said, “You guys are evil. Canada’s the best country in the world. We go to the doctor and we don’t need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you’re broke because of medical bills.”

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande may look like America’s sweetheart, but this little diva is definitely a handful. Just a few months ago, Grande made headlines all around the country was video taped liking donuts in a local donut shop and putting them back. If that wasn’t bad (and disgusting) enough, Grande went on to say, “I hate Americans. I hate America.” Although she apologized for her comments, and although she claims that she is proud to be American, the country isn’t too proud of her.

Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda has bad mouthed America so much that she’s rubbed veterans all over the country the wrong way. During the Vietnam war, Fonda made some comments that left America reeling.  Apparently, Fonda openly criticized the American government, and was eventually dubbed a traitor. She once also said, “I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees, that we would someday become Communists.” While that wasn’t a direct diss towards America, suggesting that the United States become a communist society usually doesn’t go over well.

Azealia Banks

Reading Festival 2012 - Day 2

Azealia Banks may be a rapper, but she’s actually more famous for her brash Internet presence. Through the use of her social media accounts, Banks has spoken openly about her disdain for well, everyone and everything.  And while she’s made a lot of in-your-face remarks, her statements on America are definitely somewhere at the top of the list. Apparently, Banks isn’t a huge fan of the country, and stated, “I hate everything about this country. Like, I hate fat white Americans. All the people who are crunched into the middle of America, the real fat and meat of America, are these racist Conservative white people who live on their farms.” Well, at least she’s letting everyone know how she really feels.
