Five Things You Didn’t Know about Kelly Rowland

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Robert Guerrero

It might be easy for some people to assume that Kelly Rowland was just that “other girl” in Destiny’s Child, but to assume that would be to underestimate who she is and just what she can do. Kelly Rowland is what they used to call a “triple threat” in Hollywood. She can sing, dance, and act. Not only can she do those things, but she can do them well. While some people see her in Beyonce’s shadow, we see her clearly forging her own path. Here are five things you didn’t know about Kelly Rowland.

Appeared In Other Girl Group on Star Search

Long before the shows like American Idol, there was a show called Star Search (that featured many pop stars back when they were kids, like Justin Timberlake). Kelly Rowland appeared on an episode of that show with a girl band she was in at the time called Girl’s Tyme. There was another girl in that band you might know of named Beyonce’.

Just shows you she was planting them professional seeds early on.

She Was in Freddy Vs. Jason (and It Caused Some Problems)

I know a lot of you may have known she was in the movie, but did you know one particular line of dialogue she had in the movie brought a lot of negative attention to her and the film? It is a line many say she improvised on the spot. Though they kept the line in the final movie, there are still people who have issue with a word she chose to use. Let’s just say, hate speech in any form is not cool and leave it at that.

Loves Reality TV

She will admit it is a guilty pleasure, but the pop star loves watching reality TV, even though she admits it can be trashy. Love and Hip Hop is her favorite, but she is known to watch the Kardashians when no one is looking. Hey, we have way worse guilty pleasures than that, Kelly. So rest easy knowing there are millions who agree with you.

Inspired by Sade’

It is hard to have grown up in the 80’s and 90’s and not been inspired by Sade’. The stunner had an amazing voice and a energy quite unlike anyone else out there at the time. So it makes sense that Kelly Rowland would sight Sade’ as a major influence on her career. She is known for just putting all her Sade’ albums on shuffle on her iPod and leaving it that way for months.

Her Image Has Evolved

Though some saw her as the “innocent one” in the group, her Talk A Good Game album changed that. Edgier, more adult, and a little more risque’, it showed us a side of the singer we had never really seen before. Thing is, she seems comfortable in all roles. It is for that reason we need to keep our eyes on her. She is still just figuring out her path and her talents. It will be amazing to see what she may have in store for the world next.
