Hunger Games Beats Twilight at the Box Office

83rd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

This makes me happy. If that lacks a bit of professionalism on my part, I do apologize, but only slightly. What you need to understand about me, and I say this with all due respect to everyone involved with the series. I was not the biggest Twilight fan. I grew up fearing vampires, so the fact that they were suddenly being watered down for teen girls just did not sit well with me. So when I found out that the new Hunger Games movie beat out Twilight’s profits, I did a little dance of joy. Sorry Twilight, sometimes we just gotta keep it real, as the kids say.

MTV did all the number crunching, but all you need to know is Catching Fire did a great deal better than Twilight: New Moon did when it came out. I tend to believe this stands as a testimony to the fact that teens, heck, anyone, will flock to an interesting story. That, my friend, is just what the Hunger Games trilogy is. An interesting, at times very mature story about adolescence, social rank, and teens murdering each other for sport. Seriously, anyone who knows me knows I would pick that over “emo teens who sparkle and can scamper up trees like squirrels.”

Also, while keeping it real I will say, Jennifer Lawrence pretty much seems like the coolest chick ever. Good for team Mockingjay. They earned this win.
