Vanity Fair has released its 2013 “New Establishment” list of powerful influencers and innovators. The winners weren’t Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Bob Iger of the Walt Disney Company, or New York mayor Michael Bloomberg. Nope. Vanity Fair placed Beyonce and Jay Z at the top of their list proving that the music industry is still on top. So why was the power couple chosen?
First, the couple earned a whopping $95 million last year. That’s $15 and $45 million more than the next most powerful couple on the list. On her own, Beyonce ranked #2 of Forbes’ list of Most Powerful Musicians of 2013 after Lady Gage and before Madonna. For those of you keeping score Beyonce earned more than her husband just a year after giving birth to her first child. Her ‘The Mrs. Carter Show’ earned a cool $1.4 million a night. Jay Z isn’t doing to bad himself. His ‘Magna Carta’ album went platinum before it was even released.
Take away the music and you have a laundry list of endorsements and entrepreneurial activity that justifies Mr. and Mrs. Carter topping the list. The two don’t seem to be going anywhere either. Their combined income has climbed every year for years.
