Joan Rivers Defends Her Holocaust Joke Made During Fashion Police

Joan Rivers is refusing to apologize about controversial comments she made about Jews during a segment on her U.S. TV show Fashion Police, insisting she uses humour to remind the public about the Holocaust. The veteran funnywoman, whose parents were Russian Jewish immigrants, critiqued a dress worn by German supermodel Heidi Klum during Monday’s episode of the E! series, saying, “The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens.”

Rivers had this to say in regards to criticism of the remark. “It’s a joke. This is the way I remind people about the Holocaust, I do it through humour. My husband lost his entire family in the Holocaust, so let’s just start with that. Your generation doesn’t even know what I’m talking about. By my doing a joke (it) gets them talking, thinking. Didn’t bother Heidi, doesn’t bother me. Why don’t you worry about the anti-Semites out there (instead)?”

At this point, in the career of a Joan Rivers should she really apologize for anything?  Granted I think the comment was a bit excessive, it’s still Joan Rivers and I think the public really doesn’t have a keen understanding of how intelligent this woman really is.  Most people think she’s just this snarky loud woman who makes fun of people.  Folks, that’s her JOB.   That’s not who she is.

Rivers is actually quite adept and in tune with the outside world.  Despite all of this and not having a real face and pushing the century mark (well, in 20 years or so).

I’m Jewish and many members of my family were killed in the holocaust – and I found this joke very funny!
