John Legend Goes Country

John Legend is one of the most famous singers in the country, and we all love his smooth, soulful voice. His smooth R&B sound is enough to make ladies swoon and gentlemen wish they had the same sound. However, the singer stepped outside his comfort zone last week when he went just a little bit country. Yes, you heard us correctly; John Legend went country.

The singer and country star Lee Ann Womack sang a little bit of country music together when they were filming for CMT Crossroads. The duo got together on stage in Franklin, Tennessee and he said he felt right at home singing country music.

“I’m kind of a country boy. I had a twang for the first 20 years of my life, then I moved to New York and lost it,” he said of his country background and his moment in time performing country music for fans. The singer was raised in a small town in Ohio, which is not considered the south but it is considered the country.

The two traded off singing lines from Legend’s hit song, “All of Me,” before changing it up a bit to sing one of Womack’s hit country songs, “The Way I’m Livin,’” which encouraged the country star to tell Legend she’d loved to see him make a country album at some point in his career.

“I want to hear you make a country record,” she told the singer. Their show aired on Friday night to rave reviews, but Legend probably isn’t going to leave his soulful songs behind in favor of country music. He may listen to it when he’s in the car or at home, but don’t expect the singer to make a trip that far outside his comfort zone by releasing a country album anytime in the future.
