She’s a California girl looking to make your teenage dream of becoming a sing true; Katy Perry has officially launched her own record label. The gorgeous pop star made a public announcement introducing Metamorphosis Music, a collaborative effort with her own label Capitol Records. Perry signed with Capitol Records herself in 2007, just before making it big with her major hit, “I Kissed a Girl.” The label, along with Republic Records and Def Jam are all products of Universal Music Group.
Perry, who is no stranger to hit collaborations with superstars such as Snoop Dogg, Juicy J and Kanye West, already has a collaboration with the first artist to sign with her new label. Ferras, a male pop singer who also signed on with Capitol Records the same year as Perry, released his first EP earlier this week with the help of Katy Perry as his executive producer. One of the songs on his album is called, “Legends Never Die,” which is the collaboration with Perry.
You can see Ferras live in action this summer if you have tickets to Perry’s Prismatic World Tour. The newly signed signer is joining Perry during the North American portion of her tour as an opening act. Perry opens the tour in Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend. The last performance of the North American leg ends in Houston on October 11.
Prior to making her official announcement, Perry had her Twitter followers in a frenzy after tweeting, “So…I have a HUGE announcement I finally get to share with you tomorrow…Stay tuned…”. Fans eagerly anticipated her announcement, hoping that it was something big. Perry, as usually, didn’t disappoint, following up her teaser tweet on Tuesday with another tweet, “I am so ECSTATIC to finally announce my NEW label Metamorphosis Music & my first signing, the incredibly talented & soulful FERRAS!”
