Matthew McConaughey hasn’t received a great deal of recognition for his acting over the course of his career. That all changed on Saturday at the Toronto Film Festival where McConaughey was greeted with a rousing standing ovation for his performance in ‘Dallas Buyer’s Club’. The film premiered at the festival marking the first time the public was able to see his much anticipated performance as a Texas man diagnosed with HIV in the 1980s. The movie is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof and his frustration with the FDA and smuggling of more promising drugs.
According to The Huffington Post, McConaughey lost close to 50 lbs for the role and appears gauntly skinny throughout the entire film. During an interview after the film, he told reporters that losing weight wasn’t the hard part. McConaughey was committed to losing the weight and said it was a no-brainer to look the part of Woodroof. The film appears in movie theaters on November 1st across the country. With the reputation of the film and McConaughey’s performance spreading, I expect to see a good turnout at the box office.
