Anytime a young athlete at their prime decides to “retire”, I always laugh. Like, what do you do when you retire so young? Just party and have fun all the time? I think these people learn pretty quickly that too much of anything gets boring. So why am I saying this? Well, it seems that Michael Phelps is coming out of retirement. Come on, I cannot be the only person who saw this coming, right? I mean, what else was the dude going to do. Play golf? *Laughs
But as ABC News points out, it is not quite what you think. He is not coming back to swim in the Olympics again. Rather, this time around, he will be competing in smaller races and such. The truth is, people seem to think he is taking these smaller events just to test himself out in the water again. To see if he still “got it”. The thing about a guy like Michael Phelps is, he is the best at what he does and will probably always GOT it. As much as he may not be making any Olympic announcements yet, I would not be surprised if he did a few of these things, they went well, and then he threw his hat into the proverbial Olympic pool again. Keep in mind, this is pure speculation at this point.
Either way, it is nice Michael Phelps is going to be back where he belongs. In the water.
