Was Miley Cyrus Stalked by a Drone?

The paparazzi is taking their job a little too seriously these days, employing the use of drones to snap photos of celebrities they can sell the gossip magazines for big bucks. Among the recently reported drone sightings following celebrities around Hollywood are both Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. These flying objects are no longer military-use only. They’re now being used to invade the personal space of the world’s most famous faces.

“Drone Pap,” was the caption of the video of a drone flying overhead that Miley Cyrus posted to her Instagram account earlier this week. Because so many celebrities campaign to stop paparazzi from snapping personal photos of their lives, they’re taking action to protect their own business.

“They tried to stop us from taking pictures and we said, ‘You know what? Release the drone,’” said one paparazzo. While most of us will never see a drone flying overhead attempting to snap unwanted photos of us, I think it’s safe to say we can see the slight issue here. It’s a  gross invasion of privacy – and really creepy – to be followed around by a flying machine knowing it’s snapping photos the entire time.

The issue is bigger than just Cyrus’ annoyance at being stalked by a drone, however. It’s a legal one. Alex Padilla, California State Senator is working to create legislation to prevent the use of drones for several reasons, restricting not only access but legal use of these flying machines. He’s attempting to work with the Federal Aviation Administration to restrict use of drones for personal privacy matters, and he’s hoping to elicit the help of Hollywood’s biggest stars in finding success in his campaign.

“We have enough paparazzi issues as it is. We certainly don’t need drones with cameras or video recorders hovering over nightclubs, restaurants or the streets of L.A.,” states Padilla. I’m sure Miley Cyrus agrees.
