It was 1994. Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan was set to take the world by storm. Then, out of nowhere, some dude jumped out a barrel and smashed her in the knee with a blackjack. Bam. Skating chances shot. Come to find out, it was all a ploy by fellow skater and general unpleasant person, Tonya Harding. It was a very strange time to be a skater, and one of the only times something like that has ever happened.
So for some reason, ESPN decided to go over that insane turn of events again. I thought the funniest thing about it was that Tonya Harding though taking out Nancy Kerrigan would up her chances of winning, but the reality was, she was an awful skater, and even if there were no other skaters, she would still find a way to come in last. The weird rumor is she says she didn’t plan the attack. The attackers claim they were hired by her. She says it was just some guy trying to impress her. Either way, Harding got in some trouble, and it just made all of American like Nancy Kerrigan, too. It was a very strange time to be a skater and Olympian in American in 1994.
