Nigel Lythgoe Admits American Idol “Would Die” Without Ryan Seacreast

Ryan Seacrest is the lifeblood of “American Idol” and without him, the show would struggle to survive, so says executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.  Nigel was out in L.A. yesterday when we asked if Seacrest was considered dispensable, much like the judges — and Nigel replied, “Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He’s not on an earpiece or anything. He’s not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He’s really important.”

When you really think about it, Nigel has to be right.  Though we’ll probably never get the actual litmus test, think about it.  Ratings have stayed the course and have been nothing short of amazing all of these years.   Judges are now turning over like pancakes on a griddle but who is the one person that hasn’t left?  Seacrest.

Everyone can imagine an Idol show with new judges but can you imagine it without Ryan Seacrest?  Neither can I.
