If you think international soccer fans are passionate then you haven’t met any One Direction fans. According to the New York Post, fans bombarded Aston Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor with threats and insults after he injured One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson during a charity match on Sunday. Agbonlahor’s vicious challenge on Tomlinson left him writhing in pain on the pitch while clutching his knee. He was later seen on the sidelines vomiting moments after the injury. Surely a rough sequence for the pop star.
The charity game which drew a crowd of 60,000 to Glasgow’s Celtic Park was meant to be a good-natured event to raise money for leukemia. The event was set up by former Villa player Stiliyan Petrov who had to retire because of the disease. There appears to be no lingering effect from the foul aside from the images produced of Tomlinson vomitting.
There is also no bad blood between Agbonlahor and Tomlinson as they have cleared things up on Twitter. With that said, the Aston Villa star isn’t clear of the incident just yet. He’s been bombarded on Twitter by One Direction fans with everything from threats to abuse. So it begs the question: Soccer Hooligans or One Direction Fans? Pick your poison.
