Shia LaBeouf revealed that he took acid to research an upcoming role in “The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.” He taped himself while on the drug and sent the footage to co-star Evan Rachel Wood. He told MTV: “I remember trying to conjure this character and sending tapes and Evan being like, ‘Yeah, that’s good, but that’s not, but this is, but that ain’t.”

While this could certainly be seen as both irresponsible and highly risky (not to mention illegal), LaBeouf says the trick is taking it just far enough before you go too far. “You root for it. You don’t show up [on set] completely wasted or completely tripping on acid, but you’re rooting for something and you’re pushing towards it. Everyone’s got their own way.”

OK I get being dedicated to your craft and what not.  I get doing exactly what it is you have to do to get in the mind of a character you are playing.   And Lord knows we’ve seen actors go to great lengths to play their roles.   But dropping acid?  Isn’t that illegal?  I mean of course it is but I just don’t get it.   I mean come on Shia.  You just wanted to drop some Acid and that’s that.   Movie role or not.

Would be nice to take some heroin and then just say “yeah but I did it for a movie role!”  There’s no such thing as the real world when it comes to Hollywood.
