Singer Jewel and Husband Ty Murray Divorcing

Soulful singer Jewel and her husband of six years, Ty Murray, rarely make the tabloids. While both have a loyal and large fan base, the very private couple have always been skilled at keeping their private life very private, which is why it came as a shock today when the couple announced their impending divorce. Their relationship spans more than 16 years and includes their 3-year-old son, Kase. While there are a number of celebrity divorce announcements that do not come as a shock to anyone, this certainly doesn’t fall into that category.

“My husband, friend and partner of 16 years and I have decided to get a divorce. Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together,” the singer posted to her blog this week. The reason behind their separation and divorce is unknown – and there certainly hasn’t been any tabloid fodder leading up to their announcement as there is in so many other public marriages and divorces. However, she went on to post that the duo would like to, “redefine what we are to each other with love rather than with malice,” which is a refreshing take on any split.

The couple posted a joint announcement about their views on parenting during and after their divorce. “Our dedication to our son is unwavering and we are both committed to being the best partners in raising our son,” is what the soon-to-be exes had to say about their toddler son and their future as co-parents.

After 10 years together, the couple wed in a very private island in the Bahamas back in 2008, and welcomed their son nearly three years later. The country couple has always kept to themselves, though Murray did a quick stint on Dancing with the Stars several seasons back.

My kids love to whine, so I love to wine. My loves include nap time, bed time, date night, travel and evenings and weekends when my husband is home because he handles all diaper changes.
