It’s a bad day for the Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice. First her husband was sentenced to 41 months in prison and two years probation, and then she was sentenced to 15 months in jail.
“For a moment I thought about probation…but I think a period of confinement is absolutely necessary in this case. I don’t honestly believe that you understand or respect the law. I need to send a message. In the eyes of the law it doesn’t matter who you are. There are consequences to pay,” said the New Jersey judge when she issued Teresa Giudice’s 15-month prison sentence as the housewife and mother of four cried.
The only good news that comes from today’s sentencing is the fact that the parents will not serve their time together. The judge does understand that they have four young daughters who need their parents. Teresa will serve her sentence first, and Joe will serve his sentence when she is released from jail.
In tears before her sentencing, Teresa said, “My daughters are my life. I’m more sorry than anyone will ever know. I will make this right no matter what. I’m really scared…I need to learn to do things for myself. It’s time for me to wake up.”
“I am not sure you respect this court or our laws, and I’m not sure you understand what you’ve done. I want you home with your girls. You’re a great dad,” said the judge to Joe Giudice before handing down his sentence.
“I stand here humiliated. I disgraced many people, including my wife and my four daughters. I take full responsibility for my actions. I promise to be a better person,” said Joe Giudice in a statement today. On top of the 41 months he will serve, he will also serve two years probation and he will pay back $414,000 to Wells Fargo and another $10,000 in fines. As far as his deportation case, the judge in the case said this will be taken care of once he serves his time. His lawyer maintains that Giudice should not be deported considering his parents brought him to the country as a child and he was unaware of the fact that he is not an American citizen.
