Tom Hanks is one of those guys you wish you could sit down and have a cup of coffee with. He just seems very warm, and you could imagine that having coffee with Tom Hanks would lead to some great stories. But don’t be surprised if he takes his coffee black, because it seems the celebrated actor actually suffers from type two diabetes. Something he is only getting around to talking about publicly, now.
Tom Hanks, who is an American institution when it comes to films, is suffering from late-onset type two diabetes after dealing with high blood sugar his whole life. The actor confessed all this on David Letterman on Monday, to many people’s shock. He told a funny story about how his doctor told him if he could get his weight back to what it was in high school, he wouldn’t have to worry about it. Hanks then told her: Looks like I am gonna have diabetes then. It is good to see Tom Hanks still has his key sense of humor for all this.
E online has the whole story. Perhaps someone as well known as Tom Hanks can bring more light to the issue and help further study of the disease. Maybe, with his help down the road, there could be more funding to finding some potential cures. For now it is just a matter of being conscientious about what he eats, and judging from how much weight he lost for Castaway, we think he’ll be just fine.
Regardless, best wishes to Tom Hanks, and a genuine thank you for being forthcoming and honest with the issue. Undoubtedly, that will help other people deal with it as well.
