Two Memorial Awards Planned for the Late Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman's Funeral Service

It’s been a couple weeks since the tragic passing of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was honored last night during the Academy Awards by his peers, but that won’t be the only celebration dedicated to the work to the Hollywood legend-in-making.

According to his mother, there are two upcoming celebrations planned for Hoffman – one in New York City and the other in Rochester. At a screening of the Hoffman film Capote in Rochester critic Jack Garner read a statement by Marilyn O’Connor thanking fans and friends for their support. The statement said:

“It has been a devastating loss for us, but I know that you also feel a great sorrow. We miss and cry for the little boy and man, the brother, the uncle, the husband, the father, the friend…. We will also miss his talent, his knowledge of his craft, and seeing the results of his hard work. He was a gift to me for 46 years. I wanted more.”

A very tough statement by his mother. Hoffman’s death was officially confirmed to be the result of a drug overdose. We’ve said it from the beginning. Hoffman was a unique talent and we really appreciated his work. It was a shame to lose such a person to a terrible disease so early.
