Does Reese Witherspoon Have Fake Feet?

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Actress Reese Witherspoon once shocked and confused fans when she tweeted, “Getting my fake feet made.” Several fans responded with questions about why Witherspoon needed fake feet, while others seemed unbothered because fake feet are apparently better than a fake face.  Although Witherspoon also posted a photo with the tweet, it was nearly impossible to see what was actually going on with her feet, and fans were forced to paint their own mental picture.

However, it was quickly revealed that Witherspoon’s “fake feet” were being created as a result of her role in the film, Wild, which is based on the memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed.  In the film, Witherspoon portrays Strayed as she hikes more than a thousand miles across the Pacific Crest Trail.

Apparently, the fake feet were apart of Witherspoon’s desire to accurately portray Stayed and to “mimic the beat up description Cheryl explained in the book.” According to a fan of the book, Strayed’s feet played in important role in her journey as she struggled to overcome her divorce and the death of her mother, and she describes Strayed’s feet as “wrecked…with toenails falling off.”

Strayed has expressed that she is extremely grateful for Witherspoon’s education to the role and in an interview about the film she stated, “it’s an extraordinary experience to see Reese Witherspoon dressed in the clothes I wore on the trail, her hair the same style and color as mine then, with my beloved-loathed Monster on her back packed just the way I packed it.  I’m humbled and awed and so excited for you to see the movie!”

Strayed even joined in on the foot themed fun by responding to Witherspoon’s feet tweet saying, “This made me laugh so hard. Those fake feet are are modeled on MY FEET!”  Unfortunately; however, Wild will not be released in the United States until December 2014, leaving the appearance of Witherspoon’s fake feet will remain a mystery until then.
