10 Actors Who Cry All The Time In Movies

Being an actor or actress means you have to get into character. Sometimes characters are a bit like yourself and other times they are a complete 180 from the person you are in real life. Either way, actors and actresses have to be able to cry on cue, show emotions they might not actually feel and turn themselves in to someone else for a time.

Some famous actors and actresses find it difficult to go from being themselves to being a character in a moment’s notice and are notorious for living their lives as the character they are playing at the moment until shooting is over. For example, Anne Hathaway once said that Meryl Streep stayed in her character the entire time they shot the hit movie The Devil Wears Prada. She wasn’t a crybaby in that movie, but there are some actors and actresses who spend much of their time on the big screen crying it out.

brad pitt

Brad Pitt

He has the life that most men dream of having; money in the bank, the choice to work when he wants on projects he wants to work on, and he has a wife by the name of Angelina Jolie. Before that he was married to Jennifer Aniston, and he’s very wealthy. Did we mention that? He also cries a lot on the big screen. In fact, we’d venture a guess to say that he has a role that requires tears stream down his face in just about every other movie in which he stars. But guess what? He’s Brad Pitt, and that means only one thing; he cries very nicely and still maintains that handsome poise.

Mae Whitman

Mae Whitman

From Hope Floats to Parenthood, she cries all the time. She’s good at it, too. I would assume she’s so good because she spends much of her time in roles that require she shed a tear or two, but it might also be the fact that she’s in movies and television shows people adore and she’s crying tears of joy all the way to the bank to cash that big paycheck she gets for shedding tears.

hugh jackman

Hugh Jackman

Les Miserable comes to mind first and foremost when it comes to all the crying that this actor does in his movies, but that’s just one of many. For someone who plays a pretty dangerous and kind of awesome superhero, he sure does cry a lot in his other movies. However, he’s been the Sexiest Man Alive, he’s won awards and he’s got tens of millions of dollars in the bank that he can laugh at as soon as he’s done crying in his next movie role that will probably earn him more money, notoriety and recognition.

claire danes

Claire Danes

It doesn’t matter what type of role she is in, she’s crying. She’s crying angry tears of frustration, happy tears of joy, hurt tears of solace and heartbroken tears. In fact, she sometimes cries so much that even the people at SNL have created comedy skits to portray her crying at things like the reading of the weather. Calm down meteorologists; we only kid. We get that the weather is a very serious thing.

james van der beek

James Van Der Beek

Okay, so he’s not someone who has really had too many roles since he was no longer playing Dawson, but in the hit television show that made Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams famous, he cried a lot. And his cry face, well, let’s just say it’s not really all that manly or attractive in the least. Perhaps this is why he’s been so notoriously absent from just about everything since that role ended almost two decades ago.

natalie portman

Natalie Portman

Has anyone ever noticed that she doesn’t do many movies, but when she does them they are always roles that are a bit less than happy? She likes to take on the challenge of portraying a character in a mood, in a place in life that seems as if it should be okay but it’s really not? She’s good at it, though, and perhaps that’s why she can afford to be picky about her work. Her cry scenes are ugly, but she’s still cute.

matt damon

Matt Damon

He’s one of the most recognizable and famous faces in Hollywood, and it’s for several reasons. For one, most of his roles require two things of him. He either has to cry it out for the camera or he has to be rescued from some obscure place in the world (and sometimes out of it) and that means he’s not doing too badly. His cry face is a good one, and we certainly do not hate it. We actually kind of like it, now that we think about it.

laura dern

Laura Dern

She manages to find roles that require her to cry almost every single time. What’s interesting about her particular cry face, too, is that she’s pretty much unrecognizable when she’s crying. She looks as if she could be anyone else in the world other than herself, and that’s actually pretty impressive. You just believe her when she cries. She’s so good at it every time.

johnny depp

Johnny Depp

It doesn’t matter what movie he’s in, he’s always crying about something. The good news is that his cry face really is just his regular face with a few tears streaming down his carefully made up cheeks for good measure. Most of his serious roles call for a tear shed, though he’s also famous for playing a drunken pirate with nothing to cry about at any given point in time. We don’t mind seeing Depp cry it out, though.

diane keaton

Diane Keaton

What we love most about her is that she has the most over-the-top dramatic cry face in the world. She is the best when it comes to this, and we can just imagine she’s laughing maniacally on the inside every single time. She’s been in many movies in which she plays a neurotic mother or writer or wife or whatever that occasionally calls for her to have a breakdown of tears, and she nails it every single time.
