Meet the New Characters in ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay’

20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

The newest posters from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 were just released and they introduce fans to a slew of new faces. The names of the characters that accompany each poster might be known to you if you’ve read the books but otherwise the posters are totally cryptic.  The ads introduce the new rebel army, showing a bunch of tough looking new players (one per poster) in futuristic combat uniforms. One ad features a familiar face – a somber, crossbow-wielding Gale. In the final installment of the Hunger Games Trilogy, Gale becomes a die hard rebel soldier, putting aside all things, even his relationships, for freedom for the rebels.

Let’s meet the other new characters featured in the posters and the actors playing them.

Cressida/Natalie Dormer

The most familiar of the faces is most likely Ms. Dormer’s, famous for playing Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones and before that, Anne Boleyn in Showtime’s The Tudors. She famously shaved half of her head to play Cressida, the resident film director sent from the Capitol, but who ends up joining the rebellion along with her camera crew. Cressida fights alongside Katniss for much of the final installment. Dormer’s half-head shave will showcase Cressida’s large vine head tattoo.

Castor/Wes Chatham

Castor is part of Cressida’s film crew, sent from the Capitol.  Castor works as a cameraman to film Katniss in District 13’s propos (propaganda videos) for the rebels . Castor works alongside his brother, Pollux, and is directed by Cressida and her assistant Messalla. Together, the four of them form the TV crew. Castor bought Pollux’s way out of Avox servitude, but not until Pollux spent five years working in the utility pipes and passages under the Capitol. This is the actor’s first big role.

Pollux/Elden Henson

Remember him from the Mighty Ducks!? The big boy who’s the softie? It’s so awesome to see this guy again. Pollux is a Capitol cameraman who films Katniss in the District 13 propos, alongside Cressida. He was actually a former Avox, turned into one by the Capitol. It is assumed that the reason behind him joining the rebels in District 13 is for revenge. Henson has been acting in supporting roles since making the Mighty Ducks films.
