10 Celebrities Who have Been Caught Being Racist

The United States is a nation built with the help of people from all cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds. Unfortunately; however, people from all backgrounds have not always been treated with the same level of respect, and throughout America’s history racism has been a serious problem. For years, many minority groups have been discriminated against and targeted. While some like to believe that we are living in a post racial society, it’s often to very easy to see that that isn’t the case. While some believe that it is important to respect everyone, others simply don’t care who they offend. Although you can never be sure what people are saying or feeling being closed doors, these stars have had their rude remarks exposed to the world. Here are 10 celebrities who have been caught being racist.

Duane Chapman AKA Dog the Bounty Hunter

Duane Chapman Signs Copies Of "When Mercy Is Shown, Mercy Is Given"

During the early 2000s, Duane Champan, better known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, rose to fame for his TV show of the same name. Although he quickly became popular, everything came crashing down in 2007 when Chapman was caught making racially charged remarks. During a conversation with his son, Chapman repeatedly used the N-word. Later, he defended his use of the word by using it again, A&E removed his show from the air until 2008.

Mel Gibson

Over the years, Mel Gibson has become well-known for his crazy – and usually offensive – out breaks. Gibson has made several inappropriate remarks about multiple racial and ethnic groups. Gibson has been heard using the N-word, referring to Mexicans as wetbacks, and making anti-Semitic comments. At this point it seems safe to say that Mel Gibson dislikes everyone equally.

Michael Richards

Best-known for his role on the extremely popular sitcom, Seinfeld, Michael Richards has a reputation for making people laugh. However, during a stand up show at the Laugh Factory in 2006, Richards left the crowd doing everything but laughing during a set that has since become famous. During his routine, Richards began heckling people in the audience. According to sources, Richards used the n-word and  made comments about lynchings and the Jim Crow south. Although he apologized for the incident, many people have been turned off by Richards ever since.

John Mayer

John Mayer ruffled lots of feathers during in interview in 2010 when Mayer made some questionable racial statements, and some very inappropriate remarks about black women. Mayer used the N-word, and called certain parts of his body “white supremacist.” After the interview, Mayer issued an apology stating, “It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize…a word that is so emotionally charged.” Unfortunately for Mayer; however, the damage had already been done and many of his fans lost respect for him.

Paula Deen

For years, Paula Deen was one of the most popular celebrity chefs on TV. Her southern style cooking made her popular among viewers, and many people couldn’t wait to see what she was doing to whip up next. However, Deen’s career was almost completely derailed in 2013 after a huge racial controversy became public. In 2013, a former employee of Deen’s filed a lawsuit accusing the southern chef of making racist and sexist remarks. Deen admitted to using the N-word, and while many were offended, others chalked it up to the fact that she was a white women who had grown up in the south at a time when casual use of the word was acceptable.

Hulk Hogan

At the height of his career, Hulk Hogan was one of the most well-known professional wrestlers in the business. However, despite his success, his career has also been full of controversy. Most recently, a conversation between Hogan and a friend was leaked in which he spoke about his daughter’s love life and repeatedly used the N-word. After the incident, Hogan issued an apology acknowledging his use of the word, but the WWE decided to terminate his contract.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is one of the most famous young stars in the world. Over the course of his career, he has gained millions of fans, and has sold out shows all over the place. However, even with his incredible fame, Bieber is widely considered one of the most obnoxious people in the industry. With that being said, many people were still disappointed in 2014 when two videos began circulating the Internet in which Bieber was openly using the N-word as a teen. In one video, he made a joke which referenced the word, and in another, he rearranged his song “One Less Lonely Girl” to incorporate the use of the word.  After the incidents, Bieber issued an apology, but a bad taste was definitely left in some people’s mouths.

Kelly Osbourne

For years, Kelly Osbourne has been a fan favorite. In her role on The View, she’s often been open-minded and progressive. However, recently, Osbourne upset both viewers and cast mates when she made an offensive comment about Latin Americans. During a segment in which the panel discussed Donald Trump’s remarks about Mexican immigrants, Osbourne, who attempted to make the point that Trump’s statements were ridiculous, stated, “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?” Although she quickly said that she “didn’t mean it like that,” many people felt that there were much better ways she could have made her point, and that her statement revealed underlying feelings. Fellow The View panelist, Rosie Perez, was so offended by Osbourne’s remarks that she quit the show.

Donald Sterling

Demonstrators Protest Racist Comments Made By L.A. Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Before Playoff Game

Former Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, received a lifetime ban from the NBA in 2014 after a recorded conversation was leaked in which Sterling could be heard telling his then girlfriend, V. Stiviano that he didn’t like her associating with black people. Sterling told Stiviano that he didn’t want her to bring black people to his games, and his comments were instantly met with anger. The league, which is primarily black, quickly responded to Sterling’s comments, and several of the players on the Clippers were clearly offended.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump has a history of offending, well, everyone. However, his most recent comments have made headlines all over the country. Although Trump is currently running for president, he hasn’t let that stop him from saying what ever he wants. In July 2015, Trump referred to Mexican immigrants as “rapists,” and said that Mexicans who come to this country bring drugs and crimes. Trump’s comments resulted in his contracts with NBC being terminated, and a significant drop in net worth. However, despite the backlash, Trump remains unapologetic about everything he says.
