In this day and age, many celebrities are tapping into other industries as a way to solidify their brands. Although it may seem strange, many celebrities have turned to the book business. While it’s always been common for celebrities to write autobiographies or memoirs, these days some of the biggest celebs are actually writing novels. Sure, most people are wondering what some of these stars know about writing a book, but surprisingly some people have actually found success. Although you may be hesitant to pick up a book written by a celebrity, you may actually be in for a pleasant surprise. Here are 10 celebrities who have written highly successful novels.
Lauren Conrad is one of the few reality TV stars who hasn’t done anything super embarrassing and has been able to have a successful and serious career that doesn’t have anything to do with the show that made her famous. In 2009, she released the novel, L.A. Candy, which was the first in a series of books. The story was loosely based on her life and the book series has gone on to be very successful.

Actress/model/singer Bella Thorne can also add actress to her list of credits. In 2014, she released her first novel Autumn Falls, and the book is said to be the first in a series of books. The book has received many positive reviews from both young adults and their parents.

Ethan Hawke definitely never limits himself when it comes to exploring his talents. In 1996, he wrote the move, The Hottest State, which was the story of a young man falling in love for the first time, and the effect his romantic relationship had on the other relationships in his life. The book went on to be adapted into an independent film of the same name that was released in 2006.
In 2000, Steve Martin released his novel, Shop Girl, and the book went on to be a New York Times Best Seller. John Lancaster, a reviewer for the Times stated, that the story was an”elegant, bleak, desolatingly sad first novella…The prose here is sometimes flat . . . the happy ending feels as if it has wandered in from somewhere else; and there is a touching confidence in the efficacy of self-help books. But there is nonetheless an impressive gravity about Shopgirl.” Martin went on to adapt the book into a film of the same name which was released in 2005.

If you’ve ever seen an episode of The Simple Life, you may find it hard to believe that Nicole Richie has written a book of any kind. However, in 2005 she wrote a novel titled, The Truth About Diamonds, which may have even been loosely based on her own life. The book went on to be pretty successful and actually landed a spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner
Kendall and Kylie Jenner may be just teenagers, but their definitely on their way to building empires. You can say whatever you want about these two, but one thing is for sure – they’re all about getting money. With the fan base they have, they can put out almost anything and it’ll sell. In 2014, the sister co-authors a novel titled, Rebels: City of Indra, and although the book received mostly negative reviews – the girls’ fans seemed to eat it up.

Now a proud mother, it’s clear that Hilary Duff’s focus has shifted – and it’s not a bad thing. In 2010, Duff co-authored a young adult novel titled, Elixir, which is eventually meant to be part of a larger series. The story focused on a young girl whose father disappears and the mission she goes on to find him. Chris Harrison is best-known for hosting both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. However, hosting isn’t his only gig. In 2015, Harrison released a novel titled, The Perfect Letter: A Novel. The story received a lot of positive reviews and even many readers were surprised that they enjoyed the book so much. The Perfect Letter has also received “Best of the Month” honors from Amazon.

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi
Snooki has definitely capitalized on her Jersey Shore fame and since the show’s cancellation she has continued to remain in the spotlight. Snooki has released three novels over the years, and her most recent novel, A Shore Thing nabbed a spot on the New York Times Best Seller list. Carrie Fisher has had a lot of ups and downs throughout her career. After struggling with substance abuse issues and bi polar disorder, Fisher has worked hard to get her life back on track. Her 1987 semi autobiographical novel, Post Cards from the Edge, touches on some of the struggles that she’s dealt with. The book has received mostly positive reviews – especially for its honesty – and is also a New York Times Best Seller.
