Three Selena Gomez Facts that Will Make You Feel Old

Selena Gomez

She is one of the most famous singers and actresses of the younger generation, and she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The Texas native began rising to fame when she began working as one of the children who played with the big purple dinosaur, Barney, on his television show and in his movies when she wasn’t even 10. When she was only 15, she was cast as the lead role, a young witch, in the hit Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place and from there her star began rising rapidly. She began singing, releasing albums and starring in movies. Only three years after she was cast as a Disney Channel star, she began her own clothing line.

She’s been dating Justin Bieber, a Canadian singer, for a few years now, but their relationship is always on and off. Bieber has been in the press a lot in the past year for his arrests and questionable behavior, but the young singer keeps going back to him time and time again. Since Gomez has been in the business for years and managed to keep herself out of the spotlight, out of trouble and she’s been such a good role model for kids, her continuous return to Bieber has served as a big reminder to her fans and the rest of the world just how young she really is. It’s easy to forget the singer was born in 1992 and not a decade or two before based on her maturity, but her feelings for Bieber remind us how young she really is. In fact, you probably never put two and two together, but Selena Gomez wasn’t even born when most of us were experiencing our teenage years. Here are just a few facts about the singer’s age that might surprise you.

Isn’t It Ironic?

When most of us were singing about an old man turning 98, winning the lottery and dying the next day, Selena Gomez was getting ready to celebrate her 4th birthday. That’s right; Alanis Morissette is an “oldie” to Selena Gomez, but most of us danced to that in the 8th grade. That also makes the Spice Girls and Hanson old news. If that’s not a fact that makes you feel old, I don’t know what is.

Rugrats are Older than Selena Gomez

That’s right. If the Rugrats were real people, they would be several years old than Gomez. In fact, they’d be mid-20s and older if they were real. Angelica would be celebrating the last few years of her 20s, and Selena Gomez has only been in her 20s for two years.

She’s the Same Age as Goosebumps

I don’t know about you, but I was a huge fan of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books when I was a preteen. That never made me feel old until I realized that these books were introduced for the first time in 1992 – the same year Selena Gomez was born. They were only released for 5 years, which means she’s probably never read on in her life.
