Michael Jackson’s Thriller Video is Being Re-Released in 3D

It’s a “Thrilling” day for fans of the late Michael Jackson. It seems that everyone’s favorite video, Thriller, is being re-released…in 3D! The video is going to be released in 2015, and it’s a moment that all old-school Michael Jackson fans are excited about. John Landis, director, is set to bring the iconic video to 3D early next year, though there is absolutely no information yet on how that’s being done as far as how fans will see it in 3D.

At the moment, all we know is that there is a rumor circulating that the video will be released on Blu-ray and possibly in some theaters, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment. Apparently, the plan has been in action for many years, but the estate issues that have been going on within the Jackson family have pushed this project off. However, according to Landis, “we settled and they paid me finally…so actually there is something happening with, ‘Thriller.’ It’s going to reappear in a highly polished and three-dimensional way that is very exciting on the big screen,” he said of the new release.

According to a vote by Rolling Stone, the video is the most iconic of all time; the greatest music video of all time. It’s 14 minutes of sheer entertainment and delight, and people love it. It’s a song everyone knows; a dance everyone knows. When the video was made in 1983, it cost $500,000 to make, which was nearly 10 times the amount that it cost to film an average video at that time. The video is one that changed the way we viewed music videos forever. It was inducted into the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress in 2009, and it’s something people love just as much today as they did 31 years ago when the video was made.
