Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is an American-Canadian comedian and actor with an estimated net worth of $150 million. Born on January 17, 1962 in Ontario, Canada to Percy and Kathleen Carrey, he was the youngest of four. His mother was a musician, his father an accountant and he was raised in a religious family, growing up Roman Catholic. For the first 8 years of his life, he lived in a small town in Ontario where he decided that he was not an ideal student. Not a bad kid, he was just one that really wanted to take part in show business, making it his business to crack everyone up and make people laugh.

Jim Carrey struggled for years to make it as an actor before he was finally able to begin his comedic career. He was not someone who wowed audiences at first, and he was considered a bomb when he first began making stage appearances. This caused the actor to suffer some self-esteem issues and wonder if he had what it took to become a famous actor and comedian. Additionally, his father was unable to support his son due to financial issues, and this had a negative effect on his son’s career.

Once his family was in a better place, he was able to focus on his career and actually improved his comedy significantly. What began as open mic night auditions and free performances turned into paid gigs, which turned into fans, which turned into a following. It did not take long for him to become noticed by a famous face; Rodney Dangerfield. He asked Jim Carrey to open for him and that’s how he became part of the Las Vegas show. He stayed for a while, but decided he wanted to see if he could make it in Hollywood. He moved to LA and began appearing as a comedian in and around the city.

Jim Carrey spent nearly four years from 1990 to 1994 working regularly on a show called In Living Color, but he did not become a household name until he was cast as a famous pet detective by the name of Ace Ventura. That movie was such a success, and Carrey was able to wow crowds so much at that time that he was suddenly the biggest movie star in the country. Followed quickly by Dumb and Dumber and that is when, as they say, it was history.

In the next few years, Jim Carrey went from occasional television guest star to huge movie star with roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber, Batman Forever, The Cable Guy, Liar Liar, The Truman Show, Me, Myself, and Irene, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bruce Almighty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lemony Snicket and even several other movies in which he provided voices to animated characters.

Jim Carrey is one of the most famous actors of our generation, and he continues to surprise audiences with his hilarious performances, his amazing candor and his funny stories. He is much loved, and anything he does is guaranteed funny.
