Steve Harvey is an American comedian, actor and host with an estimated net worth of $100 million. Born on January 17, 1957 in West Virginia to a coal miner by the name of Jesse Harvey and Eloise Vera, his full name is actually Broderick Stephen Harvey. During his childhood, his parents left West Virginia and moved the family to Cleveland, Ohio, where Harvey would one day receive the honor of having his childhood street named after him. The actor attended college at Kent State as well as West Virginia University, and he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Steve Harvey did not begin performing comedy until he was almost 30-years-old in 1985. He began his job at the Hilarities COmdey Club in Cleveland. He was homeless for several years at this point in his life, sleeping in his decade-old Ford unless the gig he had at the time was one that came with a complimentary hotel room. During those years, he would take to showering and bathing at public pools and in showers along gas station routes where truckers usually take the time to stop and clean up. It wasn’t until he was the second place winner of a comedy search in 1990 that he was given an opportunity to host a television show that would pay him enough to get him off the streets. By 1994, he was starring on an ABC show called Me and the Boys, which led to the hit sitcom The Steve Harvey Show in 1996. This hit show, in which Steve Harvey played a high school teacher alongside Cedric the Entertainer, ran through 2002.
In 1998, Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac, D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer began performing comedy together in the Kings of Comedy Tour. This hilarious show was released on video and DVD and portrayed him as hilarious, which he is, and that helped to make him more famous than ever before. From there, Harvey began working in the movies, starring in films alongside celebrities such as Beyonce, Cuba Gooding Jr. and he even released a clothing line in 2005. Many of his jobs include hosting award shows and comedy tours, and most notably his 2015 appearance in Las Vegas as the host of the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant. Though notably a famous show, it’s not one that many people talk about afterward, but Steve Harvey made it the most famously talked about show of the year when he accidentally announced the wrong contestant as the new Miss Universe. It took him a moment to apologize and correct himself, but it wasn’t until after Miss Colombia was crowned, sashed and holding her flowers waving to the audience that he was able to get it out that she was actually the first runner up and the real Miss Universe was Miss Philippines.
Throughout his long career, Steve Harvey has amassed an impressive fortune, mostly through his acting and his comedy. However, his clothing line and his hosting gigs also help him to become the wealthy man he is today.
