Five Celebrities Who Made Huge Comebacks

9th Annual TV Land Awards - Red Carpet

In Hollywood, it is easy to call a celebrity down, but you can never call them out. As you will see by all the examples on this list, even being out of the industry for decades can sometimes mean little. Though comebacks are not always easy, here is a list of five celebrities who made it look just like that. Remember, the match isn’t over until the ref calls it.

John Travolta

Touchstone Picture's Premiere of "Wild Hogs" - Afterparty

A lot of people think John Travolta has one of the best comeback stories in all of Hollywood. It was Quentin Tarantino who decided to give the former star his status back by casting him in Pulp Fiction. A movie that would go down in history as one of the best, and a comeback that would go down in history as one of the best.

Christina Applegate

61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Many people wrote Christina Applegate off after Married With Children. They thought she was a one trick pony. But years later, after doing some other sitcoms, she was given a chance to shine next to Will Farrell in Anchorman, and shine is just what she did. It must be hard to hold your own next to the comedic greats in those films, but she shows us she has the chops.

Neil Patrick Harris

Another actor written off after TV because of just how well known he was as Doogie Howser. Who would have thought he would go on to make the name he has for himself in modern TV and on Broadway. His stint as Barney will go down in history as one of the best “best friend” characters on TV. Also, his roles in the Harold and Kumar movies have forever cemented his insane legacy. He is pretty, wait for it…………..epic.

Robert Downey JR

25th American Cinematheque Award Honoring Robert Downey, Jr. - Show

While the other comebacks have been about bouncing back from being typecast and such, Robert Downey JR’s comeback is the most amazing comeback on the list. Simply because he came back from addiction and pretty much the edge of death. There was a good stint there when it seemed like RDJ was not gonna not only never make a comeback, but probably not survive. But then Iron Man happened, and Downey forever cemented himself as one of the greatest actor comebacks of all time. In many ways, his story mimics that of Tony Stark in the actual Iron Man movies.

Mickey Rourke

Premiere Of Lionsgate Films' "The Expendables" - Arrivals

Okay, so I know plastic surgery has done a number on this dude. I know that. But Sin City also did a (good) number on him. It took him from being the has-been in eighties movies, to be the go-to guy if you wanted a good or bad guy who just had a ton of character. This all led to his real eye opener, starring in the amazing The Wrestler, and getting many accolades for it.
