Gwen Stefani Tabbed to Replace Christina Aguilera on Season 7 of ‘The Voice’

2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival - Day 1 - Backstage

Season 5 of NBC’s hit TV show The Voice was a wild success. Part of the reason the show did so well in the ratings was the chemistry of the coaches Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine. The stars of the show are clearly Shelton and Levine, but Green and Aguilera helped make the show a success. Ratings for Season 6 (currently airing) aren’t doing as well and we’re thinking the presence of Usher and Shakira as Green and Aguilera’s replacement may have something to do with it.

NBC might be onto this trend. Knowing that Aguilera isn’t going to be back next season because of her pregnancy, they didn’t try to get Shakira to double dip (she probably wouldn’t have anyway). Cue Gwen Stefani. The No Doubt singer is set to replace Aguilera for Season 7 of The Voice alongside with Pharrell Williams. While Stefani might be a temporary solution for Aguilera’s absence, if the season is a success we might be seeing her in the spinning chair for Shakira going forward. Williams is also an interesting pull. There’s a really strong chance that he becomes a mainstay with Cee Lo out and Usher not winning ratings for the show.

As Season 6 wraps, we can begin to look for Season 7. The Voice has taken some serious thunder away from American Idol, but they’re churning out seasons and it makes sense. The show has about 3-4 more seasons before it becomes old news and a new show takes the spotlight.
