Kanye West is at it again. He made headlines last weekend after he decided to call out a couple of concert-goers who didn’t stand up when he stopped the show and said that he would not continue the concert until everyone in the stadium was on their feet. He proceeded to encourage the audience to boo the two people who did not stand up, and it turns out those two people were not actually capable of standing up. Both were handicap guests at the concert and couldn’t stand. After the audience was able to notify West’s team that the audience members were in wheelchairs, he amended his statement and said that everyone that could stand, better stand, unless they have a handicap parking pass.
The incident, needless to say, didn’t go over well, or help West’s reputation with the world for being a bit condescending and self-important. And now he’s just making matters worse. The rapper issued another statement during another Australian concert on Monday night in an attempt to defend himself for his actions at his weekend concert.
“So, people on the Today show, I’m not sure I keep up with the news, but if Michael Strahan is still at the Today show, no Good Morning America, Matt Lauer, the girls on The View – Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Roberts, if y’all run this, take a step back and look at this: I’m a married Christian man with a family. At my concerts, I make sure everybody has as good a time as possible. So all this demonizing me, it ain’t goin’ to work after a while. Pick a new target. If you take someone that can go from being a rock star across the globe and everything and make the decision to pick one woman and raise a family…there’s enough things workin’ against you. I’m not going to make one of them Ben Affleck statements…” he continued with a few expletives, “This is real expression. This is real artistry. You know, an artist’s career doesn’t happen in one cycle of news – an artist’s career happens in a lifetime. And if you’re a true artist, you’re willing to die for what you believe in.”
It’s unclear whether or not West is attempting to apologize for his actions and embarrassing his audience members during his weekend concert or if he’s just trying to convince the world he’s a legend. All that’s clear is that he’s managed to confuse everyone who is reading his statements.
