Queen Elizabeth to Visit Game of Throne’s Set in Ireland

It’s game time for the Queen of England and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The royal pair are taking to television – figuratively – with an envy-inducing visit to the season 5 Game of Thrones set in Belfast next week to see what’s in store for the hit series’ upcoming season. The Queen is set to tour Ireland next week, and it only makes sense the royal would want to visit the set that’s centered around royalty. HBO just renewed the mega-hit series for both a fifth and sixth season, providing much happiness to GoT fans across the globe.

“As part of the visit to Northern Ireland The Queen and The Duke will tour the @GameOfThrones set in the Titanic Quarter,” was the tweet posted by the official Twitter account of the British monarchy. But it wouldn’t be a real tweet without the royal announcement’s inclusion of the #GoT hashtag at the end. Even the royals love this hit show. The announcement was met with both envy and excitement by GoT and royal fans alike, with many comments, retweets and creative hashtags describing their feelings about the Queen and Duke’s visit to Belfast.

Whether or not The Queen and The Duke take time out of their busy royal schedule to lie in bed with a bowl of popcorn or a glass of wine and enjoy the show each week (or block out a day or two on the weekend for a Netflix marathon) on HBO is unknown. However, characters in the dramatic series are based on real life royals. Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, is a character somewhat based on Queen Elizabeth I. Time calls them both power-hungry single ladies who are well-armed. Perhaps the Queen’s visit will inspire her own royal spin-off.  Or maybe the ever-dignified Queen will take the time to sit on the iron throne.
