The movie adaptation of the enormously successful video game Angry Birds is underway and the cast is brimming with big-name celebs. It was revealed on Wednesday that Maya Rudolph, Jason Sudeikis, and Peter Dinklage will have starring voice-over roles in the animated film. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg; the Saturday Night Live alums and the beloved star of Game of Thrones are just three of the star-studded array of people lending their voices to the upcoming film. This casting list reads like a who’s who of hip, hilarious comedians. Let’s begin with fellow SNL vet Bill Hader, current SNL funny lady Kate McKinnon, movie and musical star Josh Gad (Frozen’s Olaf, Jobs, The Book of Mormon original cast), and comedy pro and Eastbound & Down star Danny McBride. Joining in are a few fan favorites from different comedies, including The Mindy Project‘s Ike Barinholtz (viewer fave Nurse Morgan), Orange Is the New Black‘s Danielle Brooks (the show’s beloved Taystee), Workaholics‘ stand-out comedienne Jillian Bell, and Broad City‘s hysterical Hannibal Buress. But wait, there’s more! Also in the mix is Veep’s Emmy-winning star Tony Hale and Key and Peele‘s Keegan-Michael Key. THIS IS AMAZING!
“I’m extremely proud of this cast,” producer John Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya, and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent — these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re thrilled to have them all on board.”
Those familiar with today’s comedic talents agree. More encouraging news? Cohen has chosen Jon Vitti to pen the screenplay for Angry Birds. Vitti has written for The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and The Office, to name a few.
No other details have been released regarding the movie’s plot, but it’s based on the mega-popular, highly addictive mobile game by Rovio.
The Angry Birds movie plans to fly into theaters in 2016.
