Many sports fans are familiar with the term “sack,” however not many folks know where that term comes from. The term actually comes from Deacon Jones, one of the most feared defensive ends in the history of the NFL. Because of how fiercely Jones used to tackle quarterbacks, the term “sack” was implemented to describe the act.
Football fans may remember Jones as a member of the L.A. Rams fearsome foursome from 1961-1971. Jones died in is California home. He was inducted into the NFL hall of fame in 1980.
You might also remember Jones has having small roles in TV and movies. He had guest-starring roles on “The Brady Bunch” and “Bewitched.” He was also in the movie, “Heaven Can Wait.”
