Death is definitely nothing to be played with.  It’s the one thing that all living things will eventually have in common, and something that no one is ever truly prepared for it.  But what about those people who sometimes managed to cheat death.  You know, the people WHO look like they’ve done almost every crazy thing the word has to offer, but have somehow managed to talk away with no problems?  Well, there’s plenty of people who have done just that, and their stories are living proof that if it’s simply not your time to go, it’s not your time.  These celebrities have seen death, and managed to somehow walk away from it, all while maintaining an awesome sense of humor.  Here are 10 celebrities who stared death in the face and laughed.

In 2011, Gerard Butler almost died while shooting a surfing scene for the film Chasing Mavericks.  According to Butler: “It was like a Tsunami coming in and I was down and I just didn’t come back up really…I was down for that wave and I was down for a long time just turning and then the next wave came over and I began to think ‘Wow, I’m going to die making a movie.”  Fortunately, Butler survived the incident, but as you can guess, he was clearly shaken up.

Johnny Depp has had a few near brushes over the course of his career. In 2011, Depp revealed that he nearly died in a plane crash – except the plane never actually crashed.  While riding on a plane with Bruce Robinson who directed The Rum Diaries, Depp stated: “The plane just shut down. The sound of the engines stopped. There was silence,” Depp, 48, told Live Magazine. “Bruce and I were looking at each other and I think I said, ‘Is this it?’ It was like this weird extended moment when you’re just floating for a second and you could feel this unpleasant descent…Then we burst into hysterical laughter at the idea that this was how we were going to die.” Well, if that wasn’t scary enough – Depp was also involved in accident while filming The Lone Ranger in which he was nearly trampled to death by a horse.

50 Cent

If you think 50 Cent is though, that’s because he is.  Before becoming a mainstream success, 50 almost never lived to see it.  In April 2000, right outside of his grandmother’s home in Queens, NY, 50 Cent was shot nine times, including one shot directly to the face.  50 used this incident to inspire him to work harder and fuel his rap career.

In December of 1988, Gary Busey was involved in a serious motorcycle crash.  While it’s a miracle that he even survived the accident – especially because he wasn’t wearing a helmet – Busey suffered some very serious injuries.  During an interview in which he opened up the accident, he stated: “I was surrounded by angels. And they don’t look like what they look like on Christmas cards. They’re big balls of light that float and carry nothing but love and warmth.” Since the accident, Busey has said a couple of other things that suggest that he has contact with people outside of this world.

Travis Barker

Premiere Of Columbia Pictures' "22 Jump Street" - Arrivals

Travis Barker must have a few guarding angels on his side, because the fact that he was able to survive a plane crash is downright incredible. In 2008, a plane that Barker was traveling on suffered some difficulties which resulted in the crash.  Sadly, not everyone survived the crash, and Barkey lost his good friend, Adam Goldstein AKA DJ AM.
