Demi Moore has been one of Hollywood’s most talked about stars for the majority of her career.  Now primarily a film star, Demi’s acting career gained traction after she appeared on the small screen with a role in the popular soap-opera, General Hospital.  Her breakthrough film role came in 1990 when she starred in the romantic crime thriller, Ghost.  In the film, Moore played a widow whose husband (Patrick Swayze) was killed; however, with the help of a psychic (Whoopi Goldberg) he returned as a ghost to watch over Moore and keep her safe.  The film, which remains her most successful to date, earned Moore her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress and Moore went on to star in more than a dozen other films during the 90s.

Now, 52-years-old, Moore’s has managed to stay relevant for the entirety of her career.  Her personal life has garnered just as much attention as her professional life, and because of the long-lasting nature of her career, many fans feel as though they have grown up with Moore.  While most people are well aware of her high-profile relationships, especially her marriage and subsequent divorce to fellow Hollywood star, Ashton Kutcher, there is much more to Moore than what typically appears in the headlines. 10. She has more than 5 million Twitter followers.

Currently, Demi Moore has 5.32 million followers on Twitter; however, she only followers 259 people. Although Moore not tweeted at all since February 2013, she has admitted that she sees Twitter as a great way to connect with fans.  During an interview with Glamour Magazine, Moore stated: “I saw Twitter as this opportunity to connect with people and actually show a side of myself that is much lighter. And all of a sudden people were getting to know me, and I was connecting with people. At its core, Twitter is about sharing, and I think that in life we never feel better or more energized than when we’re giving to someone else.”

9. She earned $12.5 million to star in a film.

In 1996, Demi Moore starred in the film Striptease which was based on a novel of the same name.  Moore was offered $12.5 million dollars, which, at the time made her the highest paid actress in history. Moore’s character, Erin Grant, was a former FBI secretary who becomes an exotic dancer in order to afford the legal fees she incurred while fighting her ex-husband for custody of their child.  However, even with Moore as the movie’s headlining star, Striptease still received overwhelmingly negative reviews, and the film won several Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies)  following its release.

8. She has never won any of film’s most prestigious awards.

Although Demi Moore is certainly one of Hollywood’s most recognizable names, her filmography isn’t as impressive as many people would imagine.  While Moore has had her fair share of successful films, she has also had a substantial number of flops, and she has only won seven awards over the course of her more than 30 year career.  Among those seven awards, Moore did not win either of Golden Globes she was nominated for, and she has never even nominated for any Academy Awards or Screen Actors Guild Awards.

7. She was a member of the Brat Pack.

During the 1980s, a group of young stars who were known as the Brat Pack, dominated teenage themed films.  As a member of the Brat Pack, Moore starred in St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, and Wisdom.  Although Demi Moore may not have been the Brat Pack’s most popular member during the 80s, she has become the only member of the group to sustain a successful career during adulthood.

6. She was once a songwriter.

In 1979, Demi Moore met rock musician Freddy Moore and the two began dating shortly after and married the following year.  Freddy Moore is best known for his song “It’s a Rumour” which he co-wrote with Demi in 1980.  Although “It’s a Rumour” never reached the charts, Demi continues to receive royally checks for the song.

5. She is part Cherokee.

During her career, Moore has stated that she has Cherokee ancestry.

4. She has struggled with body image  issues.

Demi Moore has admitted that she was once very self-conscious of her body; however, she says that she has finally become more comfortable with her appearance.  In an interview she stated, “‘I sit today in a place of greater acceptance of my body and that includes not just my weight but all of the things that come with your changing body as you as age.”

3. She is afraid that she is unworthy of love.

During an interview in 2012, Demi Moore opened about her fear that she is not worthy of being loved.  In a moment of admirable vulnerability Moore said, ” … what scares me is that I’m going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I’m really not lovable, that I’m not worthy of being loved. That there’s something fundamentally wrong with me … that I wasn’t wanted here in the first place…So the fight against gravity for me is to find that love for myself that gives me the courage to reach my fullest potential, to actually receive this abundance that’s really there. I also think that what scares you goes back to being a kid; what really scares you is not knowing.”

1. She was almost cast in Flashdance.

Demi Moore was one of three finalists for the role as Alex Owens in the classic 1983 film, Flashdance.  However, the role ultimately went to Jennifer Beals.  There are two stories which both claim to tell how Beals was chosen; one states that Michael Eisner, president of Paramount, chose Beals after asking the studio’s secretaries which women they liked the most.  The other story states that Beals was chosen after Eisner asked the most “macho men” on the Paramount lot which of the three women they’d rather sleep with.
