The bond between a parent and a child is meant to be everlasting and unbreakable. However, many celebrities often find themselves struggling to maintain strong relationships with the people who gave them birth. Whether it be due to greed, jealousy, abuse, or neglect celebrities often find themselves being forced with the harsh reality that their parents don’t always have their best interest at heart. Over the years, it has become almost commonplace to watch celebrities publicly duke it out with their parents, and unfortunately, many of this relationships have proven to be irreparable. Here are ten celebrities who have had horrible relationships with their parents.
10. Macauley Culkin
Actor Macauley Culkin was once one of the most well-paid and well-known child stars in the film industry. However, Culkin’s success wasn’t without its price. After their separation in the late 90s, Culkin’s parents began a bitter custody war which left him and his multi-million dollar fortune right in the middle. Culkin’s parents were accused of spending a large portion of his fortune, and Culkin eventually filed to become legally emancipated from his money hungry parents. Culkin has since cut his father out of his life, even refusing to visit him while he recovered from a stroke.

9. Lindsay Lohan
Over the last several years, actress Lindsay Lohan has suffered several professional ups-and-downs. Unfortunately, Lohan’s personal life hasn’t been much better, and her relationship with her attention-seeking parents has suffered as a result. In 2012, tensions between Lohan and her parents reached a new level when news broke that Lohan’s father recorded a telephone conversation in which Lohan accused her mother of doing drugs. Lohan has since admitted that she lied about her mother’s drug use, and the star has even taken to defending her parents actions. However, despite everyone’s efforts, their relationship continues to be rocky.

8. Mackenzie Phillips
In 2009, actress/singer MacKenzie Phillips, shocked the world when she accused her famous father, John Phillips, of sexually assaulting her. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Phillips stated that she and her father were involved in a sexual relationship that lasted over 10 years. Phillips told Oprah: “For a moment, I was in my body for a horrible truth. I boxed it away. I started very early on in my life compartmentalizing. … This was the mother of all difficult experiences. … I [have spent] the last 30 years trying not to look at it.” Although Phillips forgave her father before he passed in 2001, their relationship was never fully mended.

7. Jennifer Aniston
For years, Jennifer Aniston’s horrible relationship with her mother has been the topic of discussion for Aniston fans everywhere.In 1999, Aniston’s mother, Nancy Dow, published a book titled From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir. Many viewed the book, which revealed several of Aniston’s personal secrets, as a desperate attempt to gain attention. In response to the book, Aniston completely cut Dow out of her life. Now, more than 15 years later, Aniston’s relationship with her mother continues to suffer.

6. Roseanne Bar
In 1991, actress/comedian Roseanne Bar, accused her parents of physically and sexually assaulting her during her childhood. In a statement, Roseanne stated: “Keeping the secret of incest has taken all my energy and courage for 38 years. For most of my life, voices in my head must have been telling me, “Shut up. Shut up. Shut up and take it. There’s nothing you can do, take it, forget it. At least you have a place to live and food on the table. You’re crazy. You deserve it.” Barr’s allegations caused a rift in her relationship with her parents who denied the allegations.

5. Kendra Wilkinson
Reality TV star and former Playboy Bunny, Kendra Wilkinson has had a rough relationship with both of her parents. After her parents’ divorce in 1994, Wilkinson’s relationship with her father, Eric, was virtually non-existent. In recent years, Kendra has been able to reestablish a relationship with her father;however, her relationship with her mother, Patti, has been very rocky. In 2014, Patti accused Kendra of lying in order to improve the ratings on her reality TV show, Kendra on Top. Patti and Kendra also go through periods where have no contact with each other, and Patti was not invited to the hospital when Kendra gave birth to her second child.

4. Tatum O’Neal
Like many other former child stars, actress Tatum O’Neal has had a very turbulent relationship with her parents; especially her father, Ryan O’Neal. According to O’Neal, after her parents’ divorced, she and her younger brother were made to live with their mother although she was a drug addict. Eventually; however, O’Neal’s father stepped in and took custody of the children. O’Neal states that while she and her father initially shared a great relationship, things quickly changed as she entered adolescence. According to O’Neal: “I don’t think he had any idea what to do with me, at all. I think he was fine when I was a little kid and he could take me around and we went everywhere together. I think as I grew breasts and kind of became a young woman, I think he just got weirded out and kind of started to struggle with me, it seemed, a lot. I started to get unbalanced and I started to feel insecure, and I started to not know where to turn.” O’Neal would eventually make a series of bad decisions that would result in her 2008 arrest.

3. Courtney Love
Over the years, singer/songwriter, Courtney Love, has had a very interesting relationships with her father, Hank Harrison. In 2004, Harrison admitted that he believed his daughter was responsible for the death of her husband, Kurt Cobain. Harrison told Dateline NBC: “she’s a psychopath, she has a sociopathic personality like I do. I don’t know who killed him. I know who benefited from his death: my daughter, for one. A decade later, Harrison told the media that he could prove that his allegations were true. However, no such proof has ever arisen and Love and Harrison remain estranged.

2. Gary Coleman
Gary Coleman’s turbulent relationship with his parents was the subject of many headlines before and after the star’s death. At the height of Coleman’s career as a child actor, his parents were accused of using his money to pay themselves. Coleman, who became estranged from his parents in 1989, eventually sued his parents and was awarded more than $1 million. When Coleman died suddenly in 2010, it was revealed that Coleman did not wish to include his parents in his will.

Eminem’s horrible relationship with his mother, Deborah, has been the subject of several of songs. Several of Em’s lyrics regarding his estranged mother have been violent and accusatory, and resulted in a 1999 slander lawsuit. According to Eminem, his bad relationship with his mother is a result of her drug addiction and years of abuse. However, Deborah has denied many of the allegations over the years.
