Is Ellen Pompeo Leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

It was a sad season finale for Grey’s Anatomy fans as the great Sandra Oh’s character, Christina Yang, took a new job in a new country and left the show for good. This was, without a doubt, the most difficult goodbye we’ve said yet, since Yang was probably the best character on the show (though saying goodbye to Mark and Lexie after the plane crash was not easy). That doesn’t mean, however, that there aren’t plenty of other characters still left going into the 11th season of the hit television show, including the lead character, Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo.

However, Pompeo has been making a little noise lately about leaving acting for good. Don’t worry, Grey’s fans. She’s not leaving the show just yet. She’s just allegedly signed on to do a 12th season and it looks like she simply wants to give up acting after she’s done with Grey’s, and not a moment before.

“I definitely don’t have a strong desire to act after Grey’s. I definitely feel myself transitioning. For the place I am in my life…I don’t necessarily want to work for other people…and with acting, I don’t feel like I have anything to prove anymore – even though I have no awards,” she said recently about her role as Meredith Grey.

Reporters went on to ask Pompeo if she was going to announce her retirement anytime soon, and she was honest with her answer.

“I’m not going to come out and make one of those statements like, ‘I’m retiring after,’ and then in February come back. For my journey, I did the absolute top of what I could do in TV and I’d like to try a new sport and see if I’m any good at something else,” she continued. We have to agree; the role of Meredith Grey is awesome.
