10 Celebrities On The Brink of Losing Their Popularity

In the wise words of Christina Milian from the 2003 film, Love Don’t Cost a Thing: “popularity is like a job…not a privilege. It’s nothing but work and worries. Work to get in. Work to stay in.”  However, in the case of many celebrities, all the work in the wold couldn’t keep their popularity from fading.  With trends constantly changing, there is no guarantee that what worked yesterday will work tomorrow.  As a result, many famous people often find themselves struggling to keep up with the demands of an industry in which everyone is disposable. Sadly, many celebrities often find that their fall to the bottom happens much more swiftly than their rise to the top.  Here are 10 celebrities who are on the brink of losing their popularity.

10. Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer rose to mainstream fame almost a decade ago after earning the title role in the 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee.  Since appearing in the film, Palmer has received several other roles;but, she has never seemed to completely reach her potential.  In 2014, Palmer, who landed a talk show on BET, became the youngest talk show host in history; however, even with a career that seems to be buzzing, Palmer’s popularity seems to be doing the opposite of increasing.

9. Jennifer Hudson

Academy Award winning actress/singer, Jennifer Hudson, was introduced to the public in 2004 when she became a finalist on the popular competition show, American Idol.  Shortly after, Hudson’s career reached new heights when she was cast in the 2006 film remake of the Broadway musical, Dreamgirls.  However, even with a string of impressive accomplishments, Hudson’s popularity among the general public seems to be fading.  After several low-budget film roles and a mediocre third album, it is unclear which direction Hudson plans to take.

8.  Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus’ popularity has definitely grown over the last several years.  However, Cyrus’ strange and attention seeking behavior seems to have left many fans second guessing their devotion to the young star.  Cyrus’ 2013 Bangerz Tour also slightly suffered from her bad behavior, and an NBC special featuring her concert received extremely low ratings.  It appears that after almost two years of twerking, the public seems to be tired of waiting for Cyrus’ next move

7. Kanye West

Kanye West is an extremely talented businessman and musician.  However, over the years he has displayed behavior that has made him incredibly difficult to life.  Now, it seems that his ego seems to have grown so large that there is no longer room for anyone other than Kanye.  In 2014, Kanye interrupted his own performance to go on a rant about his awesomeness.  After booing him off the stage, hundreds of fans left the concert earlier to avoid having to listen to him speak any longer.

6. Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart, once known as the beloved Bella Swan, quickly fell from public favor after cheating on her now ex-boyfriend and Twilight co-star, Robert Pattinson.  Since her infidelity was brought to light, Stewart’s popularity has drastically decreased.

5. Iggy Azalea

2014 was a huge year for rapper Iggy Azalea.  However, she has received a lot of criticism for her apparent cultural appropriation as well as several comments she has made towards other artists, especially fellow female rapper, Nicki Minaj.  Azalea and Minaj exchanged subliminal messages on Twitter after Minaj insinuated that Azalea’s success in the music industry was a direct result of her race.  Although only time will tell what 2015 has in store for Azalea, it would not come as a surprise if she exited the game as quickly as she entered it.

4. Chris Brown

Chris Brown has been on thin ice ever since his physical altercation with ex-girlfriend Rihanna.  However, Brown has recently taken sabotaging his career to a whole new level.  After announcing a joint concert with fellow R&B star, Trey Songz, Brown let fans down when he announced that the tour’s initial dates would have to be pushed back so that he could complete the last 100 hours of his court ordered community service.

3.  Gwyneth Paltrow

Recently voted the most hated celebrity, actress Gwyneth Paltrow seems to be doing something wrong.   Often considered “annoying” Paltrow has managed to make people dislike her, most of them without knowing why.  Unfortunately for Paltrow, it is extremely hard to remain popular when you are disliked by a large number of people.

2. Birdman

Bryan Williams AKA Birdman, is the co-founder of New Orleans based record label, Cash Money.  The label is responsible for launching the career of Grammy Award winning rapper, Lil Wayne, and subsequently, the careers of Nicki Minaj and Drake.  Although Birdman is the reason for Cash Money’s existence, his popularity is a result of his affiliation with Lil Wayne.  However, recent reports have alleged that Wayne, who feels his career is being mishandled, plans to depart from the label and take Drake and Nicki with him.

1. Columbus Short

A little over a year ago, actor Columbus Short had it all.   With a starring role on ABC’s hit series, Scandal, Short’s career seemed to have reached its long-awaited peak.  However, Short was fired from the show after news broke that he had been physical abusive towards his wife.  Since departing from the show, the future of Short’s career has been very uncertain.
