Kate Middleton, formally known as The Duchess of Cambridge, gained international recognition in 2011 when she married Prince George of Cambridge.  Since becoming part of the royal family, Middleton has quickly become a favorite among people all over the word.  Often hailed for her fashion sense, Middleton has been photographed in outfits by some of the world’s best-known designers.  However, as many people may know, no outfit is complete without the perfect pair of shoes.  Middleton’s shoe selection has often drawn a lot of attention to her feet, and many royal family fans cannot wait to see which pair she will put on next.  However, in 2012, after images of Middleton’s bare feet were circulated around the internet, many people were slightly surprised at the condition of her feet. People quickly began to wonder whether or not the image was fake, and curiosity quickly arose.  Here are three things you didn’t know about Kate Middleton’s feet.

3. Kate Middleton has functional hallux limitus.

Emma Supple, a podiatrist who has studied images of Middleton’s feet, believes that the Duchess is suffering from a condition called functional hallux limitus.  This condition essentially causes “stiffness of the big toe joint,” but can lead to serious orthopedic problems if left untreated.

2. Kate Middleton wears a size 8.5 shoe.

Kate Middleton’s size 8.5 feet put her slightly above average when it comes to shoe size.  Known for wearing high-heeled shoes, it is essential that Middleton be able to find the perfect pair of shoes.  Fortunately for her, her feet are still small enough that most shoes are easily accessible.

1. Kate Middleton’s feet may develop bunions.

According to podiatrist Emma Supple, Kate Middleton’s feet are currently in the process of early bunion development.  A bunion is a “bony hump” that develops at the base of the big toe.  These painful deformities are often the result of wearing tight shoes.
